JSW MG Motor India has expanded its New Energy Vehicle portfolio with the introduction of the Hector Tomahawk EV and its plug-in hybrid sibling, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV. Marking the brand’s entry into the mainstream plug-in hybrid segment while establishing a new technical foundation for its electric lineup, these SUVs arrive alongside an aggressive production ramp-up at the company’s Halol plant in Gujarat.
ADAPT Architecture and Powertrain Specifications
The Hector Tomahawk EV is the first vehicle in MG’s portfolio to utilize the new Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology (ADAPT). This dedicated platform houses a 69.2 kWh high-voltage battery pack paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor mounted on the front axle, generating 204 hp (150 kW) and 310 Nm of torque. On the Modified Indian Driving Cycle (MIDC), the electric variant achieves a certified single-charge range of up to 517 km, with a 0 to 100 kph sprint time completed in 8.2 seconds.
Charging infrastructure flexibility is a central design consideration. The EV supports DC fast charging up to 90 kW, which allows a 30 to 80 percent charge replenishment in roughly 35 minutes. Alternatively, a 7.4 kW AC unit requires approximately 12.5 hours for a 10 to 100 percent top-up. Alongside standard utility functions, the vehicle includes V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle), V2L (vehicle-to-load), and V2H (vehicle-to-home) charging support.
Dual-Powertrain Alternative: The Hector Tomahawk PHEV
Operating alongside the pure electric model, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV combines a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine, a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), and a 20.5 kWh battery pack. Offered exclusively in a 7-seater configuration, the plug-in hybrid delivers over 115 km of pure-electric driving range. When combining the battery capacity with a full fuel tank, JSW MG claims a total combined driving range exceeding 1,100 km.
This dual-powertrain configuration serves as a bridge for buyers navigating long-distance routes where fast-charging corridors remain sparse, ensuring that internal combustion capability mitigates traditional range limitations.
Ownership Models: Upfront Purchase Versus Battery-as-a-Service
To lower entry barriers, JSW MG Motor India has introduced dual pricing structures for both powertrains, incorporating traditional full ownership alongside a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option for a limited number of bookings:
- Hector Tomahawk EV Pricing: Traditional ex-showroom prices span from ₹19.49 lakh to ₹23.50 lakh across Excite, Exclusive, and Essence trims. Under the BaaS scheme, the entry price drops to ₹13.99 lakh, supplemented by a battery rental fee of ₹4.90 per kilometre.
- Hector Tomahawk PHEV Pricing: Outright ex-showroom prices range from ₹25.69 lakh to ₹27.79 lakh. The BaaS alternative lowers the initial vehicle cost to ₹21.79 lakh, paired with a lower battery rental rate of ₹3.20 per kilometre.
Manufacturing Capacity and Business Scale
Underpinning these vehicle rollouts is a significant capital expenditure program. Director Parth Jindal confirmed that JSW MG Motor India and its vendor network are investing roughly ₹6,000 crore to expand capacity at the Halol manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The plant currently maintains a capacity of 110,000 units per annum, with operational targets aiming for 160,000 units by March and 220,000 units per annum by January 2028. The automaker recorded sales of 70,554 vehicles in 2025 and is targeting a fiscal volume approaching 100,000 units.
Practical Buyer Framework: Evaluating EV Versus PHEV
Selecting between the Hector Tomahawk EV and the PHEV variant requires matching daily transit realities against mechanical trade-offs:
- Daily Charging Access: The pure EV variant suits owners with reliable home AC charging setups or daily commutes intersecting high-speed DC charging corridors.
- Highway Range Confidence: The PHEV variant addresses unpredictable long-distance travel requirements by relying on the 1.5-litre petrol motor and DHT when electric infrastructure is unavailable.
- Financial Run-Rate Analysis: Buyers must calculate annual mileage against the BaaS battery rental cost (₹4.90/km for EV vs. ₹3.20/km for PHEV) to determine whether the reduced upfront acquisition cost offsets long-term per-kilometre rental overhead.
Practical Checklist Before Booking
Because the Hector Tomahawk EV and PHEV use different powertrains and ownership models, compare the written offer for the exact variant rather than relying on a headline starting price.
- Confirm the variant: Verify seating configuration, trim, included safety features and delivery estimate with an authorised MG dealer.
- Calculate the full cost: For a BaaS offer, estimate annual kilometres and multiply by the quoted per-kilometre battery rental. Add the vehicle price, charging or fuel costs, insurance, service and any applicable fees.
- Check the assumptions: Treat claimed range and charging times as manufacturer figures; real-world results vary with speed, weather, load and charging conditions.
- Ask for terms in writing: Confirm booking eligibility, rental conditions, warranty coverage, cancellation terms and the final on-road price before paying.
- Compare your use case: An EV is most convenient when dependable charging is available; a PHEV can offer petrol backup but still needs you to compare fuel use and charging habits.

Market Outlook
As deliveries for the Hector Tomahawk EV begin in September 2026, followed by PHEV deliveries and test drives in November 2026, market data will clarify how Indian consumers adopt the ADAPT platform and alternative financing frameworks. Competitively positioned against emerging electric SUVs like the Mahindra XEV 9S, MG’s dual-pathway strategy tests whether tiered ownership models can accelerate mainstream electrification.
